NEWS OF THE WEEK

Three lady hostages held in Gaza were released by Hamas in exchange for hundreds of Palestinians being released by Israel.  The ladies were alive but not in good condition.  This is the deal.  Some people are happy.

The NFL playoffs whittled the field down to a final eight.  Kansas City took care of  Houston and Buffalo got by Baltimore.  The Chiefs and the Bills will meet again for the AFC Championship.  In the NFC, Philadelphia beat LA and Washington upset Detroit.  The Eagles and the Commanders will meet for the conference championship.  Three of the four games went to the underdogs with the betting points.  We will know the Super Bowl participants by Sunday night.

Ohio State defeated Notre Dame for the professional College Football Championship.   The rich get richer.

An Arctic blast swept across Southwestern Ohio causing our furnaces to work overtime.  Our gas and electric bills will make it look like we paid the winds time and a half.

The LA fires are still burning but are mostly contained in their areas.  I suppose they will just burn themselves out...hopefully, before I visit this Spring.

Donald J Trump and J D Vance were sworn into office amid inauguration festivities in D.C.  Now we'll see if bloviating talk turns into positive results.

Vivek Ramaswamy has decided to forego being part of Trump's "department of government efficiency" (doge) and will concentrate on running for Governor of Ohio in 2026.  I thought it would be difficult for him to share the stage with Elon Musk.  Governor DeWine cannot run for office again because the State of Ohio has a limit of two terms for all state positions.  Wish we had term limits for all federal government posts.

The local college basketball teams had another rough week.  The outlook is bleak for either to flourish in March Madness.

By the end of the week, some measures of the Stock Market reached all-time highs.  The prospect of lower interest rates and lower oil prices encourages buyers in the equity market.
