FOOTBALL TERMS
Did you know that the term 'blitz' in football, which means to rush a linebacker, safety or cornerback into the the offense's backfield, is derived from the German word blitzkreig. The word translates into English as "lightning war". It was used during World War II to describe an offensive maneuver in which after initial bombardment by the artillery, a swift attack was made on an enemy position.
