SYDNEY

SYDNEY

One of the interesting things about Sydney, Australia is the area along Sydney Harbor known as The Rocks. It is a popular tourist area full of small shops, restaurants and pubs. It sits across the harbor from the famous Sydney Opera House and next to their thriving downtown area. Its history is what makes it so interesting.

Sydney is located in the state of New South Wales. For hundreds of years, the English used this part of Australia as a place to send its criminals and most undesirable citizens. They settled in The Rocks area and many Irish were among them. The Rocks was a slum area with buildings made of stone (thus the name) that was rife with prostitution and gangs. Tough sailors frequented the area on their shore leave.

It is a testament to what can be done with blighted areas of a city if someone has vision. Cincinnati could use this kind of vision.
