After an off-day on Monday, the Reds went to Chicago for three against the first place Cubs. They were outclassed the first two days but salvaged the third game with the help of seven home runs. Only one team in the majors has hit seven home runs in one game. The Reds have done it twice, both times against the Cubs. Aaron Harang was put on the DL with his sore forearm. He'll be back in two weeks. The final three games before the All-Star break were in Milwaukee against the Brewers. The Reds took the first two but were edged out in the finale. They were 3 and 3 for the week and now are 46 and 50 for the year. That puts them in fourth place in their division and 11-1/2 games behind the Cubs. The big bummer for the week is the injury to Jerry Hairston Jr. He is the engine that was pulling this team ahead.

The Xavier University basketball program is reaping the spoils of the Kelvin Sampson fiasco at IU. Guard Jordan Crawford will transfer in and be given a scholarship. That scholarship will be available because Andrew Taylor agreed to give his up for one year. Xavier will join other schools in petitioning the NCAA to grant those leaving the Indiana program a pass on the one year ineligibility rule.

The Elder High School football game against St. Thomas Aquinas of Florida during the Kirk Herbstreit Series will appear on ESPN. It will air at noon on September 1st tape delayed from the night before.
