Texas is proverbially BIG and everything in Texas is supposedly BIG. The latest is the largest swimming pool in the world in terms of volume of water. Oh, yes, its in Houston.
This pool is only slightly larger (40 feet longer and 20 feet wider) than an Olympic sized pool but it is five times as deep (that's 40 foot deep). Now, you must be asking yourself, why? Of course, it is a NASA training tool called the Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory. Astronauts use it to train for space walks. . . those in-space EVA's. Don't mess with Texas.
When I was young, I spent many a day and evening at Sunlight Pool in Coney Island Amusement Park near Cincinnati. When my wife and I were dating, we would go there and swim into the night and then walk the park. I remember that it had a sign posted proudly that it was the largest recirculating swimming pool in the world. Take that, Texas.
