SUNDAY SERVICE

Today in the gospel is the day we remember that Jesus allowed himself to be baptized by John.  We think He did this to show everyone how important baptism (conversion) is.

The day I am writing this is the day of the Islamic terrorist attack in Paris.  It drew me to the second reading in which Peter is quoted in the Acts of the Apostles as saying, "In truth, I see that God shows no partiality. Rather, in every nation whoever fears Him and acts uprightly is acceptable to Him."  No country nor religion has an inside or an automatic connection to God.  Everyone has a way to reach Him.  Fear God and act uprightly.

When I was a kid in the 1950's, it was common to end every prayer or service with the invocation, "Savior of the world, save Russia."  Maybe the world should start praying similarly for the conversion of the Muslims.
