WHEN I WAS A KID

When I was a kid, in the first grade of elementary school (1951), our class project to be put on in front of the parents was not a songfest as I usually see these days.  We had a band with every student playing an instrument.

The instruments (I'm guessing) were triangles, wood blocks, kazoos, recorders, cymbals, and the like.   I don't remember the instruments - I didn't play one.  I was chosen to be the band leader.  I'm not sure if that was because I showed the most musical talent or the least.  In any case, I wore a green satin cape and stood out front with a baton.  I'm sure my parents were very proud.
