BLOOD PRESSURE

In a recent study, it has evidently been conclusively proved that lower blood pressure reduces the risk of ailments and trauma of the heart and circulatory system.  Until now, it was known that systolic pressures (the first number you hear from your doctor) below 150 for sure, and below 140, preferably, were 'better' for you.

The new study,  when all the data is put together, will show that doctors should be shooting for systolic pressures below 130 and preferably below 120.  (The efficacy of this for those over 60 is still in question.)

In the next year, your doctor may suggest you start taking medicine to reduce your pressure or change the medicine you already take to achieve a lower pressure reading.  Don't fight it.

High blood pressure is a silent killer.  For the most part, you can't feel it.  All of your organs require a minimum pressure.  Pushing blood through vessels that are constricted by excess body fat and clogged by excess cholesterol is hard on your heart.  If your heart can't do the job, it may fail or your organs will suffer.

Be kind to your heart.  You can't live without it.
