THE PLAGUE

Heard with interest that there was a rare case of bubonic plague diagnosed in the US the other day - an Oregon girl.  The plague is spread by rats, fleas and infected animals.  It brought back memories.

When I was in the Army, we were told that the reason for our very short hair cuts was to avoid diseases like the plague.  Preparing to go to Southeast Asia, all had to get a 'plague shot' - an inoculation to prevent these diseases.  I thought it was funny at the time.  Who ever heard of the plague?   It just sounds so medieval.
