WHEN I WAS A KID

When I was a kid, we had a lot of squirrels in our yard.  This was because we had two huge walnut trees in the back yard.  The squirrels were a menace.  They tried to get into our house every winter.  No, not through a door or window, but through holes they would gouge into the old wooden eaves and fascia boards of our three-story 1920's home.

My problems now are only slightly different.  One day I put bird food in my feeders when the snow first falls - like last Sunday.  The next day, the birds flock to the feeders and frolic with the new-found food.  The next day, the squirrels figure out what the birds are all excited about and gorge themselves at the feeders - and then mock me when I try to scare them away.

I hate squirrels.  They're just tree-rats.
