At Catholic mass this weekend, you will hear a passage from the Gospel written by Matthew. For me, the very end of it is critical. Matthew is quoting a message Jesus delivered to his Apostles. In it, He reiterates how important it is to follow the law. But at the very end, are the words to ponder today.
"I say to you, if two of you agree on Earth about anything about which they are to pray, it shall be granted to them by my heavenly Father. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there I am in the midst of them."
This part of the reading impresses on me the need to pray with others - at church, at home and wherever two or more are gathered. I once wrongly thought that prayer was only a private matter. It is not. There is a time for both private and public prayer. The mass is our common public prayer. Attend often. Do not be limited by a Sunday mass requirement - any day is the right day to pray with others. Any day is the right day to hear the "Word" and share your prayers with others. We have Jesus word, that in these times, He is in our midst.
