RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

VACATION

Thank God its getting colder here. I'd hate to go to Florida when its no warmer there.

People are made of molecules. Molecules move relatively more quickly when they are warm than when they are cold. Turn the temperature down on some water and it will eventually harden into ice because the molecules are moving so slowly. Turn the temperature up on some water and eventually the molecules will jump right out of the water when it boils because the molecules are moving so fast. Would you expect people to move faster when it gets warmer?

Warmth tends to balance itself. When you put a flame under a pan of water you know that the water will eventually boil. On the way, here is what happens: the pan gets warmer and the flame gets cooler; the water in the pan gets warmer and the pan gets cooler; the air above the water gets warmer and the water gets cooler. When the water does boil, the flame and the pan and the air right above the water are all at boiling temperature. Equilibrium is always sought and found. If you are hot, would you expect the person you are with to get hot, too? Lets hope so!
