ILLEGAL ALIENS

I don't think I understand the issue of illegal aliens.

I know that there are aliens coming into our country. They've been coming in for years. I know that many cross our borders without going through immigration/customs and thus they are here illegally. I know that we need alien workers in our country because there aren't enough Americans willing to do low paying and tedious jobs such as picking fruit. These alien workers, in effect, keep the price of many of our products down so that we can afford to buy them. I know that any program we set up to allow a limited inflow of aliens for the purpose of working will not be effective if we can't control those crossing our borders illegally. I know that I would rather not have a national ID program. I know that American businesses are already supposed to insure that all of their workers are in the country legally. This obviously doesn't work. I know that it would cost a huge amount of money to control our borders effectively. I know that we, or at least our ancestors, were all aliens at one time.

I also know that you can't have your cake and eat it too.
