THE TEN COMMANDMENTS
Well, you're never too old to learn something. There is a remake of the movie The Ten Commandments on the way to the small screen. Seeing a commercial for it reminded me of a clue I had on a crossword puzzle the other day. It referred to the seventh commandment. I figured out the answer they wanted but it wasn't right according to my recollection. I did some investigation and found that there are several versions of the "Ten Commandments" out there. Christian religions can't exactly agree on them. It has to do with what translation you accept for the book of Exodus. Christian religions agree that this book of the Old Testament states that there are 10 commandments even though most translations include more than 10 imperatives. Traditional Jewish teaching includes these 10 commandments in a total of 613 contained in the Torah.
You sure can get into trouble if you try to adhere to a literal translation of the Bible. I don't think it was ever intended to be used for that purpose. Go to the new testament and see how Jesus answered when asked which of the Ten Commandments was the most important. He answered that there are only two commandments you have to worry about: "Love God and love your neighbor." At least the translation I have says he said that.
