WEIGHTLIFTING PART SIX
24) One of the most important aspects of weightlifting is breathing. Weightlifting tends to elevate your blood pressure and holding your breath can make your blood pressure increase even more. You could put yourself into a dangerous situation. Its not only tough on your heart, your muscles need oxygen to work their best. Holding your breath will shut off the supply of oxygen. In simplest terms, being out of shape means that your body can not deliver oxygen to your muscles quickly enough when put under stress.
YOU HAVE TO BREATHE. Its easy to forget. When you contract muscles in preparation for a lift, its normal to stop breathing. You must force yourself to keep breathing. Exhale on the positive side of the exercise and inhale on the negative for best results. Bring your breathing in tune with your speed of repetitions.
