LATIN

LATIN

The only foreign language I ever took in school was Latin. Four years worth in high school. No foreign language required in engineering school in college.

I don't regret it. Latin was difficult but worth the trouble. I received an appreciation of language and etymology.

I did almost become president of the French Club in high school. A friend of mine, Don Moore, was in the new French Club in his junior year. He was going to drive me home from school this day but the club had a meeting immediately after school. I went into the classroom where they were having the meeting and sat in the rear of the room. It seems the purpose of the meeting was to elect officers. The French teacher asked for nominations for president. An underclassman in the front of the room nominated me. He saw me in the room and assumed I took French and was in the club. The teacher went crazy...in French. He didn't know me. All I could do was laugh and walk out of the room.
