ROBERT TODD

ROBERT TODD

Robert Todd Lincoln was Abraham's oldest of four sons and the only one to live to adulthood. He served as a Captain during the Civil War and afterward as Secretary of War and later, as an ambassador.

He was invited to go to the theater with his parents the night of his father's assassination but declined. Strangely, he was present at the assassination of both James Garfield and William McKinley by their invitations. Realizing that three presidents had invited him to their assassinations, he warned all future presidents not to invite him to anything.
