BAA BAA BLACK SHEEP

BAA BAA BLACK SHEEP

Eleven years ago my wife and I visited Australia. We stayed in and around Sidney and did many of the touristy things. We happened to see sheep shearing demonstrations twice. Once in a bar, if you can believe it, and once at a big sheep station.

Expert sheep shearers can put a sheep into a trance while they shear it by standing it on its rear end. I guess its not painful to the sheep, anyway. They seem to love it.

Wool fabric is made from sheep shearings and 25% of the wool in the world comes from Australia. Special wools come from other animals. I had no idea that most angora wool comes from rabbit fur and cashmere comes from goats. The name cashmere refers to the Indian region of Kashmir where this type of goat was originally found.
