HOT TIMES

HOT TIMES

What is hot? Of course, its relative. Did you know that snow and ice can be used to keep things warm. For instance, they are used to keep strawberries warm to protect them from frost damage? Strawberries can be planted as early as possible in the spring for mid-summer harvesting. This early planting time puts them in danger of frost damage in our part of the country. To avoid this, growers spray them with water when a frost warning is given so that ice will form on the new buds and protect them from the cold. A covering of snow will also protect them.
