SOFTBALL

SOFTBALL

Well, the season is over and we did not win it all but we came oh so close. At 6:15 last night we played the second place team in the league semi-finals and beat them 17-5 in five innings. This team had beaten us badly about three weeks ago. Things are different at tournament time. I was 2 for 3.

In the finals, we played the first place team and lost 5-4 in seven innings. I was 1 for 3. I had a hit in the seventh with two out and was on first base as the go-ahead run when the game ended on a controversial play. Mark McCollough, a Delta Airlines pilot, hitting behind me hit a low line drive toward the first baseman. He trapped it and just missed getting Mark at first base. The home plate umpire called him safe on the force out at first but the base umpire who was at second called Mark out on the line drive catch. The tying run would have scored and I would have been on second.

We had a picnic after the game which was great. When it got too dark at the park the picnic broke up and Tim Schuh, Trevor Lemmel, Greg Ramminger, Dave Mott and I went to Dan Brinkman's house. It was Dan's team that beat us. We had beaten them in the finals last year. Dan has added a large media room on to his house and installed a big in-ground swimming pool. He has a hot tub, huge jungle jim set-up for the kids, a double corn hole court and batting cages in his back yard. He also has two color TV's on his deck area and we watched the Reds beat the Brewers.

On a sad note, Tim and Trevor tell me that my friend Greg Lemmel will probably go into hospice next week.
