DATING

DATING

Way back, we're talking about the early to mid 1960's, the neatest and most elegant place in greater Cincinnati to go on a date was Moonlight Gardens at Coney Island. It was an indoor-outdoor dance hall with a big stage and huge dance floor. It sits next to a lake and there were beautiful grounds to walk through next to it. Mostly big bands performed there. The fox trot, cha-cha and jitterbug were the dances of the day. The twist was catching on and it was all the rage. Slick waiters delivered drinks to the tables surrounding the dance floor. You had to be 18 years old to get in. Many a marriage proposal was made there. (of course, I proposed in a shopping center parking lot, I think) This was a big time date place. Actually, I never dated very long so I only got there once or twice.
