CINCINNATI SPORTS LAST WEEK

CINCINNATI SPORTS LAST WEEK

Not much going on this time of year. On Friday night, the UC Bearcats basketball team held their usual midnight madness. Coach Cronin thinks he has the biggest team that we have seen in the city in a long time(if everyone is eligable). Lets hope size relates to wins.

On the high school football front, there was a huge win on Friday for the Fenwick Falcons. They knocked off another GCL North foe. This week they edged McNicholas 24-23 in overtime; Mariemont beat Finneytown 16-2; undefeated Sycamore humbled Hamilton 52-18; Mason thrashed Winton Woods 30-13; and Kings bopped Wilmington 24-0.

On Saturday afternoon, the UC Bearcat football team traveled down I-71 to Louisville for a Big East test against the 5th ranked Cardinals. The Bearcats played their best game of the season only to lose 23-17. The game ended with UC having the ball in the red zone and 4 chances to score the winning touchdown from inside the 10 yard line. You can't get much closer than that.

On Sunday, the Cincinnati Bengals went back to work against 'Chucky' Gruden's Tampa Bay Bucaneers. The Bengals have turned into an 'ordinary' NFL team. They played just good enough to lose - just good enough not to be able to overcome a shaky job by the referees. They lost 14-13. Its funny how the schedule changes in your mind throughout the year. Before the season started, this game at Tampa Bay against a playoff team from last year, seemed like a loser. Once the Bucs went 0-4, it seemed like a winner. Now, none of them seem like winners. Its a long season. Our boys had better get healthy.

It was announced that next Saturday, Christopher Sizer's 5th seeded Mariemont Warrior soccer team will go up against the 4th seeded Fenwick Falcon squad in the state sectional tournament.

Jerry Lentz, of Fenwick, who won the state golf tournament last year for Division II schools, finished second this year.
