CINCINNATI SPORTS LAST WEEK

CINCINNATI SPORTS LAST WEEK

Chad Johnson brightened up the week with his shiny teeth. Chad is gracing the cover of GQ and SI. It doesn't get any better than that but, you know, the SI cover has always been bad luck. It was a shot to his ego, though, and released the restraints on his mouth. Is it good to have the old Chad back again?

Friday night football was stressed by the wet weather but here goes the scoreboard: Turpin beat Wilmington 41-11, CHCA topped Mariemont 34-13, Badin beat Fenwick 23-0, Hamilton won over neighboring Fairfield 20-13, and Glen Este outlasted Winton Woods 14-8.

Saturday afternoon was bright and sunny although blustery with winds up to 50 mph. A lot of areas of the city were without power because of the wind. The wind really didn't bother the University of Cincinnati Bearcats as they crushed the visiting Syracuse Orangemen 17-3 on homecoming day at Nippert Stadium. The game really wasn't as close as the score indicates. Cincinnati failed to score from inside the red zone twice in the game. This is the second week in a row that they didn't allow a touchdown by a Big East opponent. Next up for the Cats is undefeated and top ten ranked West Virginia.

Sunday, the Bengals took the field against Michael Vick and the Atlanta Falcons. It was perfect football weather - nothing else was perfect. Vick looked like an all-pro for the second week in a row and downed Cincinnati 29-27. We couldn't get over the hump and make a big play when we needed it. The offensive line is just not what it used to be with Levy Jones and Richie Braham on the sidelines. The two games with the Ravens are now looming as pivotal for the whole season.
