FENWICK

FENWICK HIGH SCHOOL

Sitting on the bench at Fenwick High School varsity basketball games next to head coach Pat Kreke is a familiar face to older basketball fans in Middletown and all across the country. Don Donoher was head coach at the University of Dayton from 1964 to 1989. During that span, he took the Flyers to the NCAA tournament 8 times, including five sweet sixteens and two elite eights and one finals. (He lost in the finals in 1967 to John Wooden's UCLA team led by Lew Alcindor.) Donoher took them to the NIT eight times with a championship in 1968. He has 437 college wins to his credit ranking him high on the all-time list. He was chosen by Bob Knight to help coach our Olympic team in 1984.

Don is 74. When he left Dayton, he went to Indiana to help Bob Knight but retired when Knight was ousted and went to Texas Tech. My guess is that his wife got tired of him sitting around the house. Those are some lucky kids to have his knowledge to draw from.
