IRAQ

IRAQ

The question arises, "Is there a civil war going on in Iraq right now ?" Some seem to think there is. I say no.

Yes, people are being killed every day by their countrymen. (Well, maybe by their countrymen) The point is that those being killed are not fighting. They are just being killed.

When fighter fights fighter, you have a civil war. Right now, they have civil terrorism. Shias are killing Sunnis and Sunnis are killing Shias and all the time, the Kurds are trying to stay out of the way. It always sounds like a lot of people are being killed. But, until you reach the point that those being killed lose total faith in those trying to protect them and pick up arms to protect themselves, you do not have a civil war.

One more note: civil war is not the worst thing in the world. We had one - a terribly bloody one. And, not until we were tired of killing each other, did we lay down arms and solidify the union of our states.
