Neat word, isn't it? Perfunctory describes something that is routine and/or superficial. Think of this word when you are doing your Christmas shopping. Are all of your gifts perfunctory?

You know how it is supposed to feel so good when you give a gift? Well, it only feels good if the gift is not perfunctory. Giving those gifts that you just HAVE to give wont do it for you.

This year, try giving a gift to someone that doesn't expect to receive a gift. Give a gift to someone that will not give you one in return or who can not afford to give you one that is equal. Give a gift to someone that will be surprised that they received it. That's the one that is going to make you feel good.
