FOOTBALL TERMS
Did you ever wonder why they call them 'bowl' games?
If you go way back, football stadiums were much smaller than today's colossal edifices. Most just had a construction of bleacher-type stands on the center side of the field. This is the type of seating that you see at many high schools today.
When the football gods decided to give us post season games pitting the better teams in the country, they were all played in stadiums that were built like bowls. Seats went all the way around the field. The original bowl game was played in the Rose Bowl; a stadium in Pasadena, California. All of these games took on the name of 'Bowl' games. They were those games played in stadiums shaped liked bowls.
