WHEN I WAS A KID

WHEN I WAS A KID

When I was a kid, one of the real fun things I remember doing was playing in the gutter. Don't laugh and don't make jokes about me falling down drunk in a gutter. This was when I was preschool age or there abouts.

We lived on a paved street with a curb, gutter and storm drain right in front of our house. I remember playing in that gutter many a time. I even did it, sometimes, while it was still raining. I don't think I worried much about lightning.

When it rained, the water would rush down the street to the storm drain. I would take mud, sticks, stones and whatever to stop it up by making a dam. It got so I could create quite a lake. I would then take small boats and other toys and play make believe games. I can remember doing this very often. I'd sit in that gutter wearing my swimming trunks for hours or as long as the water lasted. What fun.
