SOFTBALL - NO

We finally got some rain. It had to come on a Friday. My game got rained out.

On the brighter side, the joints in my lower extremities got a week off. I might actually feel like doing something on Saturday.

Did you see the pregame show in Seattle honoring Ken Griffey Jr? Wow! It was his first time to play there since he left 7 years ago. Talk about the prodigal son.... Yesterday, Junior actually wondered if he would be booed. Today, he was lauded as the person to have single-handedly saved the city.

Griffey Jr plays baseball with the heart of a kid. He also lives his life wishing he were a kid. He's a very immature person in many ways. He loves kids. He loves being around kids. He dislikes being around adults. He feels uncomfortable around adults. Its obvious to me.

He was rushed out of his childhood and pushed into Moeller High for which he was not prepared. He didn't play much at Moeller because he didn't do well enough in the classroom. Barry Strasser, his amateur baseball coach, pleaded with Mike Cameron, legendary coach at Moeller, to let him play even though his grades weren't where they should be. He really only played two years in high school.

Later he was rushed directly to the major leagues. His body was ready but some parts of his makeup never caught up. He's a nice man. He has a beautiful wife and three great kids. He was brought to Cincinnati to lead the Reds to a championship. He will never be a leader in the clubhouse. He's just The Kid.
