RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

ARCHERY

After softball the other night, Lenny showed me his new bow. It cost him about $900. It doesn't look like anything Robin Hood, William Tell or Tonto ever used. It is a compound bow with roller cams, vibration dampening string chubs, leveling gauge, lip button, eye peephole, and high light gathering sight. The arrows are some kind of carbon fiber material with plastic feathers and replaceable tips. This thing weighs only about four pounds.

He was replacing a bow that he recently used to shoot a black bear in Canada and that he had used to shoot some 84 deer over the years. The new bow shoots an arrow at over 300 feet per second while his old one only went 260 feet per second. Previously, he shot only at targets under thirty yards away and now his limit is 60 yards.

You say you don't understand all this? Neither do I! I don't really understand much about hunting. It was never for me. I don't even like stepping on insects. Oh well, to each his own.
