Everyone has their own idea of what a sport is. It can be a little hard to define.
Joe Frankum was a manager for Price Brothers Company at the same time that I was. He was located in Detroit. Of all the guys in our management group, he was the only one that didn't really like the popular sports. Baseball, basketball, football and golf were not his bag. Joe was an avid hunter.
He wasn't just any old hunter. He hunted quail in Iowa and Nebraska, deer in Michigan, bear in Pennsylvania, doves in Central America, and big game in Africa. When the other guys were talking about their golf scores and upcoming games in their favorite sports, he would interject his favorite line, "Its really not a sport unless your opponent can kill you - that really gets your heart pounding."
It sure did get your heart pounding. Joe was a great guy who was a little overweight and loved to smoke big cigars. He died of a heart attack while on a safari in Africa. He lived large and died much too early. Live large, but take care of yourself.
