RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

11/11/11

I think eleven after eleven is a spooky time. Eleven-eleven is an eerie day. Eleven-eleven-eleven is downright scary.

On November 11, 1911, a very strange weather occurrence befell the midsection of America. By late morning, Kansas City, Missouri had a record high for this date of 76 degrees F. Springfield, Missouri got to 80 degrees. Oklahoma City got to 83 degrees. These were all record highs for the day. By midnight, it was 11 degrees in KC, 13 degrees in Springfield and 17 degrees in Oklahoma City. These were all record lows for this date. Think about it. Some cities have record highs for this date and record lows for this date occurring on the same day.

The cold front that went through blew up a dust storm in Oklahoma, continued eastward and spawned tornadoes along the Mississippi River valley, and caused a blizzard in Ohio. Tornadoes wreaked damage or death in Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin.

This was the most drastic cold weather front in recorded US history. How is your weather today?
