RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

CINCINNATI SPORTS LAST WEEK

The Reds traded Josh Hamilton to the Texas Rangers for a couple of pitching prospects. I hope it works out. Hamilton is a great talent and if he stays healthy and stays on the 'straight and narrow' can be a great player.
On Friday night, the Xavier Musketeers played Delaware State for some reason. It doesn't make any sense to me at this time of year. XU won 65-33. Yawn.

On Saturday, the UC Bearcats met the Redhawks of Miami University at US Bank Arena in downtown Cincinnati and won 56-50. The Cats are definitely getting better. Miami is not a Big East team but it was a good test. Deonta Vaughn led UC in scoring with 17 points. Jamual Warren hit two 3-pointers in the last two minutes to seal the deal.

In preps, Fenwick is now 1-8; Hamilton is 3-8; Wilmington is 7-3. Moeller is playing in the Bojangles Shootout in Charlotte, NC. On Sunday, they beat the number 9 team in the country (USA Today) Lincoln, N.Y. and will meet the number 1 team in the country, St. Benedict's Prep of New Jersey, on Monday in the finals.

Jim Leyritz, former major league baseball player who went to Turpin High School in Cincinnati, is being charged with drunk driving and vehicular homicide in connection with an accident in Florida.

On Sunday afternoon, the Bengals were in Miami for the season finale against the Dolphins. Miami played its heart out but they just don't have the players to compete with most NFL teams. Cincinnati won 38-25. TJ Houshmandzadeh tied for the league lead in receptions. Chad Johnson set the Cincinnati record for TD receptions. The Bengals finished a disappointing 7-9 and Marvin Lewis is promising a housecleaning and a change in philosophy.
