DAYLIGHT

Next Friday will be the day with the least daylight of the year. Where my home is, on the 40 deg N latitude, the hours of daylight vary from about 9 hours twenty minutes per day to 15 hours twenty minutes. Six hours difference from the shortest day of the year to the longest. On the equator, there is about 12 hours of daylight every day of the year. On the poles, there is 24 hours of daylight half of the year and none the other half year.

Vegetation takes its cue from the length of daylight. It tells flowers when to bloom and when to go dormant. Some wild animals take their cue from the hours of daylight. It tells bears when to fatten up and when to hibernate. People are effected by the amount of daylight, also. Sometimes I'm as pleasant as a flower and other times I'm as ornery as a bear. If I growl at you, please take this into account.
