The Church of Scientology was founded in 1953. Scientology is body of beliefs and practices created by fiction writer L Ron Hubbard. It is an outgrowth of his self-help system called Dianetics. He first introduced Dianetics in 1950 with an article in the magazine Astounding Science Fiction. Today, the Church of Spiritual Technology owns the rights to Scientology and Dianetics but a number of loosely related churches and organizations worldwide promote these principles.
