RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

THUMBS UP

One of the real features that separates us from most of the rest of the animal kingdom is the thumb. Its like a finger except that it has only two bones instead of three. The big trick is that with it we can touch, front to front, each of our four fingers on the same hand. It allows us to use our hands as tools.

When you give the thumbs up sign, does your thumb point upward or does it point back to your shoulder? Have you seen people whose thumbs point back at themselves when make this sign? I've noted this condition for many years and it always interested me. Now I find that it is commonly called "hitchhikers thumb". Take no offense, but I once thought that this condition indicated a moral weakness. It doesn't.
