STORIES MY DAD TOLD ME
Against his mothers wishes, my dad volunteered for the Army when he was of age during World War II. All of his brothers were serving at the time. Most of them were in heavy fighting in North Africa, France and Italy. The Army shuffled him to the Army Air Corps and he was trained as a radioman - kind of an air traffic controller. His first station was the air base at Orlando, Florida. He was married after his training and took his young wife to Orlando with him. Thus, the family novelty that I was born in Orange County, Florida. After I was born, he was sent to the Philippines; the big island of Luzon. The Philippines had been liberated from the Japanese on July 5, 1945.
