REDS

Monday was Opening Day in Cincinnati. Its like nowhere else in the country...packed house at the ballpark...big parade...all-day partying...its the official beginning of Spring for this still quaint Midwestern town. You gotta love it.

Youngsters may not realize that the Reds were the very first professional baseball team (they were called the Red Stockings back in 1869) and were a charter member of the National League when it was formed in 1876. Very few know that the Reds were expelled from the National League after the 1880 season for refusing to stop selling beer during their games. They then played in a new league they formed called the American Association for 8 years until the National League readmitted them in 1889. As you can see, beer drinking has always been a serious matter in Cincinnati.
