CINCINNATI SPORTS LAST WEEK

The Reds started the week at home with three against the Pirates and were only able to win one. That one was won on a Griffey walk-off home run in the ninth. The Washington Nationals followed Pittsburgh into town for four over the holiday weekend. They were described by someone as a triple-A team and that they were. The Reds took four in a row. So, they won five and lost two this week and now have 43 wins and 47 losses for the year. That puts them in fourth place, 10-1/2 games behind the Cubs. They picked up two games this week.

Norris Hopper is going to have elbow surgery and is done for the year. Aaron Harang has a stiff forearm and was skipped in the rotation. Josh Fogg got his chance to be a starter and did okay. Daryl Thompson was sent back to Louisville for more seasoning. The All-Star team was announced. Ken Griffey Jr, who looked like he would receive enough votes to make it, got edged out in the last week and will not go. Edinson Volquez is the Reds only representative.
