Feel free to move about the country

You may recognize this as the slogan of Southwest Airlines. Southwest is a low cost airline whose base is in Dallas, Texas. Southwest was born in 1971 out of the courtroom as the child of Air Southwest. I've flown it just once and, honestly, was not too impressed. I was greatly impressed by something I read about the airline recently.

Living here in the land of Delta Air Lines, I'm used to hearing about billion dollar profits, billion dollar losses, mergers and bankruptcies. Its hard to find a large air line that has not gone through bankruptcy or merger to avoid bankruptcy. We hardly blink, when million dollar losses are reported by any of the big air lines.

Well, blink at this. Early this year, Southwest Airlines reported its 35th straight profitable year of operation. That's every year since 1973. Say what you want about them...but, somebody down in Texas knows how to run an airline.
