RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

WHEN I WAS A KID

When I was a kid, they didn't have college football on television. In the Fall, if I wasn't out in the neighborhood playing football, my dad and I would sit in our solarium and listen to the radio on Saturday afternoons. (You got the best reception in the solarium) Every week Notre Dame games would be carried. (In that respect its not too much different than today when the Irish games are always on TV) I loved those games and developed a healthy imagination with the help of the announcers. I think Lindsey Nelson was the announcer, but I'm not sure. There was also a national broadcast of scores as they came in. That was great fun. I think kids today miss something by not listening to sports on radio. Imagination is a wonderful thing.
