The Reds opened the week with three at home against Pittsburgh. The Pirates are the only team with a worse record than the Reds. They played three one-run games and the Reds could take only one. The first place Cubs were next into town for the weekend. The Reds actually have a better record against better teams this year. With the help of a bad bounce, the Reds took two out of three from the first place but faltering Cubs. Three wins and three losses for the week is not bad for this team. The kids are growing up.
The UC Bearcats traveled to Oklahoma to play the 4th ranked Sooners. The offense was able to score 26 and, maybe, should have scored more but the defense couldn't stand up to the Big 12's top team. The Bearcats were humbled 52-26.
The Bengals opened the season in Baltimore on a sunny Sunday afternoon. Nothing was sunny about the way the Bengals played. Their offense was anemic and the defense got worn down by the Ravens running attack. It was up to the defense to score Cincinnati's only touchdown in the 17-10 loss. Don't be depressed (ha!) but that Baltimore team is about the weakest on their schedule.
In high school football, Fenwick fell to Talawanda 21-7 for its first loss of the year; Wilmington was upended by Northwest 28-6; Mariemont finally scored but still lost 13-6 to CHCA; Anderson beat Hamilton 31-20; McNicholas topped Reading 31-0.
