Ike was the nickname of Dwight D. Eisenhower, president of the United States from 1952 to 1960. He was preceded by Harry S. Truman and followed by John F. Kennedy. Ike, a General in the Army, came to fame as the Supreme Allied Commander during World War II.
I remember taking part in a scavenger hunt during a party when I was in the 6th or 7th grade. One of the items we went door to door to locate was an "I LIKE IKE" button. It had been a year or two since the last election. Political campaign buttons were more common in those days. You were expected to wear the button of the candidate you supported.
In 50 more years, what will people think of when they hear the name Ike? Hopefully, not a hurricane.
