CINCINNATI SPORTS LAST WEEK

The UC Bearcat football team had a week off. Tony Pike is working out and may come back from his broken arm to quarterback the next game against UCONN.

Both Xavier and UC basketball teams are practicing. Real games begin in mid-November. They play each other in the Crosstown Shootout on December 13 this year.

In high school football; Alter walked over Fenwick 48-0 (ouch!), Wyoming beat Mariemont 43-21, Hamilton got the best of Middletown 34-14, Wilmington topped Walnut Hills 42-17 and McNicholas edged Purcell Marion 29-26. St X won the state golfing championship.

The Bungles are just not good enough. The Pittsburgh Steelers were in town on Sunday and laid a 38-10 whoopin' on Cincinnati. Almost no one on this team makes an outstanding play. They make the easy catch; they make the easy tackle but that's it. Cedric Benson replaced Chris Perry at running back with limited success. Carson Palmer's elbow was too sore to throw the football, Ben Utecht's chest was too sore to catch it, Shane Graham's groin was too sore to kick it and the fans were just too sore to watch it all. Next week they go to Houston and try to avoid the big "owen date."
