THE BILL OF RIGHTS

It took three years for the thirteen original states to ratify the Constitution. It only took another year for the first 10 amendments to it to be incorporated. James Madison proposed these amendments to the first United States Congress in 1789. They were ratified by 3/4 of the States and went into effect on December 15, 1791. These first 10 amendments describe the individual rights of the people. Together, they are known as the Bill of Rights.

1st Amendment describes our Freedom of Speech

2nd Amendment describes our Right to Keep and Bear Arms

3rd Amendment prohibits the quartering of soldiers in individual homes in peace time

4th Amendment prohibits Unreasonable Searches and Seizures

5th Amendment describes the Rights of those being investigated for criminal matters

6th Amendment describes the Rights of defendants to a speedy and just trial

7th Amendment describes the Right to trial by jury in civil matters

8th Amendment prohibits imposing excessive bail and cruel and unusual punishment

9th Amendment allows that there are other Rights not noted here

10th Amendment allows that all powers not here delegated to the federal government shall belong to the States or to the people.

It is my opinion the the one most ignored is the 10th!
