BOWL GAMES

Today starts the college football bowl season. There are 34 bowl games to be played through Thursday the 8th of January. That's 68 teams who are playing. There are only 119 FBS (Division I-A) teams so most of them are playing in a bowl. The first game today pits Navy (8-4) against Wake Forest (7-5) in the Eagle Bank Bowl in Washington D.C. Wake Forest is the ninth place team in the ACC. The last game will put Florida up against Oklahoma for the National Championship.

When I was a youngster, there were only seven bowl games. The big ones were all played on New years Day afternoon...the Sugar Bowl, the Cotton Bowl, the Rose Bowl and the Orange Bowl. The minor bowl games that existed back then were the Sun Bowl, the Gator Bowl and the Tangerine Bowl...all played in December. It was all over on January 1st.

More is not always better!
