CINCINNATI SPORTS LAST WEEK

On Monday, the Bearcats tried to make up for the loss Providence gave them a week ago but just couldn't quite get over the hump. The were in Connecticut for the game that stayed close throughout but close doesn't count. The Friars double-teamed Deonta Vaughn all night and beat the Cats 72-63.

Xavier played the Bonnies of St. Bonaventure on Wednesday night. Another A-10 game and another blowout 84-64. C.J. Anderson had 15 to lead the Muskies.

UC tried again on Thursday night in NYC. The St. John's Red Storm were the hosts. They played an ugly, error and foul-filled game that ended up with the Bearcats on top 71-60. Deonta Vaughn came alive in the second half and scored 18 of his 23 points as Cincinnati back came from 10 down. UC is now 13-7 and 3-4 in the conference.

On Saturday night, Xavier was locked up in a big-time inter-conference showdown at LSU. The SEC's Tigers had not lost at home all year. Derrick Brown scored 22 points and had 8 rebounds as the Muskies improved their record to 17-2 with a 80-70 win.

In a notable high school score, Saturday night saw Wilmington down Elder 60-55 to go to 12-1 on the season.
