ACADEMY AWARDS

The awarding of the Oscars was once an interesting show for me. They did it again last Sunday. I have developed several problems with it over the years to the point I just don't watch it anymore.

First, why do they include movies in the awards that haven't hit general release. The awards go to movies that almost no one has seen outside of the Hollywood elite. Evidently, if you have one showing in one theater somewhere before the end of the year, a movie is eligible. I can remember when it was fun to watch the Academy Awards show and root for movies that you had seen.

Second, there are almost no good movies any more. Hollywood keeps dishing out trash. It is shocking how many movies are produced. Because of America's insatiable desire for rentals and more variety on the cable movie channels, the industry has put quantity over quality. Maybe it was always this way, but I doubt it.

Third, who cares. What is the big deal about what a bunch of movie people think. It's obvious from their professed political views that they have little or no common sense and have little or nothing to contribute to society.
