On this day in 1993, we received a shocking prelude to what would happen later. Al-Qaeda trained Muslim terrorists parked a truck full of explosives under the North Tower of the World Trade Center and exploded it killing seven and injuring over one thousand others. Official records show that six persons were killed but one, 35-year old Monica Smith, was seven-months pregnant.

A plaque was erected on the site as part of a granite memorial fountain that said:
"On February 26, 1993, a bomb set by terrorists exploded below this site. This horrible act of violence killed innocent people, injured thousands, and made victims of us all." Sadly, this memorial was completely destroyed on September 11, 2001 when acts organized by some of the same terrorists completed what they had always intended. May we learn from the past.
