RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

CINCINNATI SPORTS LAST WEEK

On Friday night, Xavier opened their run in the NCAA tournament with a game against Portland State University in Boise, Idaho. The Muskies outclassed the Vikings who relied on 3-point shots to win the Big Sky Conference. XU pulled away and won 77-59 despite one PSU rooter in the bar where we watched the game. C.J. Anderson had 14 for the locals while Derrrick Brown, Dante Jackson and B.J. Raymond had 13 apiece.

On, Sunday XU had to play 12th seeded Wisconsin who upset Florida State to get to the second round. The Badgers were a stubborn crew but the Muskies finally broke through midway into the second half and then pulled away for a 60-49 win and a ticket to Boston next week!

The Bengals made an offer to Naufahu Tahi, a fullback, who played for Minnesota last year. The Vikings have until next Wednesday to match their offer.

The Reds are plodding along towards the start of the season. I've never known a baseball preseason to seem so long.

Princeton High beat LaSalle on Saturday to advance to the State final four in boys basketball. The Mount Notre Dame girls won their fourth consecutive state title to set a State of Ohio record.
